Update Oct / Nov 2023 – Shut Down

Pebble is to close its doors and cease service on November 1st 2023. In an email to its user base Pebble said;

The painful truth, however, is that we were not growing quickly enough for investors to believe that we will break out. Combine that with a crowded space of alternatives – and the uphill climb is even steeper. In order to continue to build out a complete Pebble, we would have needed more investment, and more time.

Update Sept 2023 – Rebrand

T2 rebrands to Pebble.

Why “Pebble?” A tiny stone can cause ripples across a whole pond. Just like sharing your stories and insights can create waves in our community. We’re on a mission to make a space that is kinder, safer, and just a tad more fun for everyone.

Introduction

It was a time of change when social media giants ruled the Earth. Chaos reigned as oligarchs played their own personal versions of Game of Thrones and one outpost of calm remained…

I wanted to create a snapshot of the early days of T2, when in beta and only a few thousand people (~14/15k) participated.

T2 Social, a new friendly public square

In the beginning…

I’d heard of this new offering via Xitter of which, thankfully, I am no longer a part of. Signed up for access to the beta and promptly forgot all about it. Some weeks later a mail arrived and I was granted access.

Immediately I was greeted in a warm and friendly fashion, this was all new to me. I’d joined other networks and appeared to enter into the centre of various raging flame wars. I was wary. I was prepared to find that ‘Delete This Account’ button.

Sufficeth to say I remained and glad I did so. I felt I had found a sanctuary, a haven of calm amidst the storms. I have hopefully found a new home.

All of this has happened before…

It’s in beta, things change, rapidly. Even before I’d joined the logo had a makeover.

All of this will happen again…

Following are a collection of screen shots of the main pages from the beta version circa 2023 (September.) News from the team seems to indicate that a change of name will happen soon and that will also mean a change of logo. Many of us are hoping that the colour scheme will keep its purple tones. We shall have to wait and see what the future holds.

Final thoughts

I’ve made some great friends there already and my hopes are that when it kicks off the same atmosphere can be kept allowing many others to have the same experiences I’ve had.

If you ever make it over there, look me up and say “hello.”
