Out of Nowhere
R&D Manager relating to web and associated services required for the day to day smooth running of the company and it’s worldwide associates. Highlights included (for various projects) Wiki linked with MindMaps and required cross subdomain SSO (Single Sign On). It was during 2010 that I researched the current CMS’s of the day and found, then fully embraced MODX. All work during this period was based on and utilised the modular nature of that software.

eCommerce & Web Development
CricInfo
Using the Open Source package Interchange I created a mall of online shops for the company and their affiliates. Rewrote the entire back-end in perl to enhance the User Experience for both customers and managers. This included creating fail-safe input methods for customers and managers with server side fallback capability (Javascript availability was not assumed). This was my second project working with eCommerce expert Hillary Corney and the website (now ESPNCricinfo) remains today: http://shop.espncricinfo.com — (formerly, shop.cricinfo.com)

eCommerce Technical Manager
FontWorks UK
Working with Hillary Corney we created the first real time eCommerce pay and download digital software solution in Europe. Built upon the Interchange eCommerce engine (then called MiniVend) we directly called Barclays Bank mainframe for credit card authorisation (which at the time was another first). This allowed customers worldwide instant access/download to ~15k digitised fonts from every major (and lesser known) vendor of the day. The website and company are still running: http://www.type.co.uk

eCommerce Technical Manager
FontWorks UK
FontWorks was the UK branch of the world renowned FontShop franchise. I managed the technical support team during this period to provide first class response to any and all typographic font sales and associated software licensing and technical issues. It was my great pleasure to build close ties with all the leading font foundries of the day including Adobe, Agfa, Bitstream, FontFont, Linotype, Monotype and many others.

The Early Years
Before moving to London I’d dabbled with shop keeping as a Summer Holidays temp position in the appealingly named “Lollipop Shop.”
Spent a year in N. Ireland living on my Uncle & Aunts farm working in my Uncles company TerraTech as a Civil Engineering Lab Technician. This was my first “proper job.” Also helped out on evenings and weekends with farming duties.
Moved back to Scotland and worked at Findhorn in the Maintenance Dept with a couple of years playing at Sound Engineering and Cameraman roles.
Then before joining FontWorks in London I was as a Forklift driver for Scottish Express International. All in all quite the varied mix.
